Sensible Saturday Tip #5: Prepare a Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Sep 10, 2011   //   by NSPIRED   //   blog, wedding  //  No Comments

Here’s one last thing you should prepare before your wedding day – an emergency kit! No matter how well you have planned out every little detail and have a team of highly trusted bridesmaids at your side, $%!# happens and things can go wrong on your big day.

Don’t panic. Here are a few items that will easily save you from a potential disaster:

  • Sewing Kit: A lot of excitement awaits your big day filled with many hugs and jumps for joy. That means snags, pulls, rips and loose seams can occur. Get a sewing kit and make sure it’s equipped with a needle, small scissors, thread (with white, black & coloured thread for bridesmaids’ dresses), and plenty of safety pins.
  • White Chalk, Shout Wipes, & Tide To-Go Pens: Even the smallest stain can show up oh-so-well on a bright white dress. Take out simple scuffs with white chalk or have stain removers handy for clumsier spills.
  • Eye Drops: Happy times mean tears of joy. It can also leave your eyes looking red. A few drops will make sure you are a vision in white from head to toe throughout your big day.
  • Tylenol & Antacids: Nerves can really get in the way of you enjoying  your special day. Stop headaches and butterflies in their track with simple over-the-counter solutions.
  • Band-Aid or Blister Block: Band-Aids are good for minor cuts but it’s also awesome for those uncomfortable shoes. Have a few Band-Aids or Blister Block handy so you can walk down the aisle in style and dance the night away, blister-free!
  • Breath Mints: Make sure to keep your breath in check for those numerous hugs, kisses, and laughter. Always keep a stack of breath mints close by.
  • Snack & Water: With so much going on and so many people to greet, it’s hard to find time to eat. But it’s important to keep your energy level up throughout the day to avoid a bigger health disaster.
  • Deodorant: Let’s face it, when you’re nervous, you can sweat. Sweaty is the last thing you want to be feeling in your beautiful gown. Stay dry with a travel-size deodorant in your kit.
  • Clear Nail Polish: There’s nothing like clear nail polish to quickly fix unexpected stocking runs. It can also come in handy when you need to quickly thread a needle to fix a wardrobe malfunction. Apply a little polish at the end of the thread to stiffen it up, making it easier to get through the eye of the needle.
  • Bobby Pins, Hair Brush, & Hair Spray: Next to wardrobe malfunctions, another way to ruin a wedding look is a hair disaster. Have a simple styling kit ready to fix any loose up-dos and keep hair in its place.

Sensible Saturday Tip #4: Rethink Last-Minute Beauty Treatments

Aug 27, 2011   //   by NSPIRED   //   blog, wedding  //  No Comments

Every bride wants to look absolutely beautiful on their wedding day. So a lot of brides book beauty treatment appointments a few days before the big day. But think twice before getting a tan or a facial too close to the wedding. Even if you’ve never had a bad reaction to beauty treatments in the past, you can end up with breakouts or sun blisters because your body is in a highly nervous and sensitive state as you get closer to the wedding day.

Schedule beauty appointments at least two weeks before. For even better result, start early and get a few treatment done starting months before your wedding.

Extra tip: Avoid crash diets right before your wedding or your dress may not fit! You should be at your ideal weight by the time you go in for your last fitting appointment.

Sensible Saturday Tip #3: DIY is OK, “ODIY” is not

Aug 20, 2011   //   by NSPIRED   //   blog, wedding  //  No Comments

DIY is OK, “ODIY” is not

Resources for DIY projects are widely available these days. It’s easy (and fun!) to make decorative items or other details needed for your event. But remember – there’s doing it yourself (DIY), and then there’s overdoing it yourself (ODIY).

You have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to DIY projects, or you’ll find yourself extremely overwhelmed! Pick one or two projects that you’re really in love with and have fun with it. For the others, do a little research and try to find ready-made versions or find a vendor that can make items that fit your style. You’ll save a whole lot of time…. and your sanity! Plus, you may find that the material costs it takes to make it yourself might cost more than just purchasing ready-made ones.

If you need DIY inspirations for your wedding, check out DIY Wedding. Here are some recent DIY projects we did here at NSPIRED.

– roses made from paper ribbons

– tissue paper pom poms

– lace bridal sashes

What are some of your favorite DIY projects?

Sensible Saturday Tip #2: Hire a Day of Coordinator

Aug 13, 2011   //   by NSPIRED   //   blog, wedding  //  No Comments

Hire a Day of Coordinator

This is one advice we strongly recommend to all brides and grooms. We’ve seen too many brides running around in their wedding dress trying to coordinate the itinerary or friends and family members frantically putting out emergencies on the big day.

Because day-of details are one of the last things on the wedding planning checklist, it’s easy to forget how important it is to have someone (who is experienced) on deck to make sure everything goes smoothly. S#@! happens and things can go wrong… Hire a professional who has plenty of experience to handle any mishaps and direct the flow. You, your friends, and loved ones should truly enjoy your wedding and not worry about the logistics.

Don’t forget! Nspired is offering 50% off on day-of coordinator service for weddings in July – September 2011.

Sensible Saturday Tip #1: Make a Top 5 List

Jul 30, 2011   //   by NSPIRED   //   blog, wedding  //  No Comments

Welcome to the first edition of “Sensible Saturday Tip” – every Saturday, NSPIRED will share a sensible tip to help you through your wedding or event planning process. If you have any specific questions about planning or how to deal with sticky situations, let us know and we’ll feature it on the blog. Enjoy~

Make a Top 5 List

The most common issue that a bride and groom face during wedding planning is trying to stay within their budget. It’s hard… given that there are so many different aspects that go into a wedding – dress, flowers, venue, food, decor, photography, invitations, and the list goes on and on.

Here is a Sensible Tip to help you manage your budget without giving up on the things you really want. Sit down with your fiance and write down your “top five must-have” list – details that are most important to the both of you to have at your wedding. Then, focus on spending the most on those five items and cut down on the others. For example, if a designer gown and fancy food are on the must-have list, then you may have to opt for simple invitations and smaller centerpieces.
